Claim Spread

In a video circulating on social media, it was claimed that the person waving the Palestinian flag was the King of Denmark. We examined the said video.

Evidence

The video is from an anti-Israel protest in Sweden.

The video was recorded on May 9 in Malmö, Sweden, during protests against Israel’s participation in Eurovision. We identified the building seen in the video by reading the text on it and using reverse image search.

The building in the video is Malmö Girls’ School (Malmö högre läroverk för flickor). The location seen in the footage matches the view on Google Maps.

The same moment can also be seen in footage of the Swedish protests shared on X the same day.

From today’s demonstration in Malmö against Israel’s participation in Eurovision. At least 10 000 and possibly up to 15 000 people marching against genocide! #BoycottEurovision 🇵🇸 pic.twitter.com/lx5UBWEYdz

TRT’s gallery about the protests in Sweden also includes a photo of the person waving the flag in the alleged video.

This location does not physically match the Danish King’s palace.

In the claimed video, we can also see a close-up of the person waving the Palestinian flag. Although the person in the footage resembles King Frederick X of Denmark, there are clear differences such as hair color and beard.

The King of Denmark visited Sweden between May 6th and 7th. It is clearly visible that he had a beard during his visit.

After his 2-day visit to Sweden, King X. Frederik returned to his country. On May 8th, he received the Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, at Amalienborg Palace.

In conclusion, the person waving the Palestinian flag at the anti-Israel protest is not the King of Denmark.
